Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered that Nasser Institute Hospital be converted into a scientific research center and integrated medical city. Sisi met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health Affairs, Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin, to discuss the most significant national projects in the health, higher education, and scientific research sectors, the presidency’s official spokesperson said.

Nasser Institute Hospital to be integrated into a medical city - SisiThe Nasser Institute needs to be developed comprehensively to improve its capacity, increase efficiency of its infrastructure, and ensure its medical services are sustainable, Rady said. Abdel Ghaffar presented the Nasser Institute’s development plan, which calls for constructing new buildings to treat internal and pediatric diseases, a genetic disease research laboratory, an airstrip, a river ambulance service, as well as the expansion of the oncology building.

In Egypt, the institute is one of the most prominent pillars of the health system. This is because approximately 1.6 million patients require advanced surgery, treatment of tumors, marrow and organ transplants, emergency reception, and outpatient clinic services every year. Rady referred to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) in the UK, which will offer training programs and hold fellowship exams in Egypt in cooperation with the Research Institute of Ophthalmology, and in dentistry in cooperation with the Faculty of Dentistry at Ain Shams University this year.
